October 2026 Shopping List

Your Sober October 2026 Shopping List: What to Buy Before October 1

A Sober October shopping list has six things on it: a white and a red you will happily drink on a Tuesday, a six-pack of non-alcoholic beer, one ready-to-drink cocktail for Friday, a bottle of sparkling for the nights that need marking, and a mixer.

Priced from the bottles we have in stock in our Connecticut warehouse on 9 September 2026, the starter version costs $89 and the full-month version $257.

Both drop 10% when you build them as one bundle in the Better Rhodes Market. Here is the list, the prices, and the order to buy it in.

Why buy before October 1?

Because the challenge is lost in the fridge, not at the bar. Last October our mid-month emails were the worst performers of the month, at a fifth of the revenue of the launch sends, which is our best read on when people stop looking.

In our experience, the people who quit in week three are the people who ran out of things to drink and reached for what was there. Nearly a third of Hand on Heart Cabernet's entire year sold in those four weeks. Stock the fridge before the first, and the month is a habit instead of a test of willpower.

There is a second, more practical reason. Our October prices run by category, one week at a time: cocktails and party packs from 1 to 7 October, beer and hop water from 8 to 14, whites and sparkling from 15 to 21, then reds, rosé and cases from 22 to 31.

If you want the sale price on everything, you would be shopping four times. If you want the fridge full on 1 October, buy the starter list now, at full price less the 10% bundle discount, and pick up the deeper cuts on the categories you drink most when their week comes round.

The 31-Day Sober October Drink Plan lays that calendar out night by night.

What should be on a Sober October shopping list?

The list below is not a ranking of the best non-alcoholic drinks in the world. It is the set of bottles that (a) our customers actually reorder, (b) cost under $25, and (c) were in stock every single day of the last 30 when we checked the warehouse count.

That last point matters more than it sounds. On 9 September, four in ten products on our own site read as out of stock while the warehouse held them (we fixed the count that day), and a shopping list that sends you to a sold-out page is a list that gets abandoned.

Weeknight white

Giesen Non-Alcoholic Pinot Grigio

$16.99

One of our best-selling whites; 15% of its year sells in October. Dry, citrus, under 0.5% ABV, and it tastes like the Pinot Grigio you already drink rather than a juice

Weeknight red

Ariel Non-Alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon

$12.99

The best-value red in the range and the one we pour when someone says they do not believe in non-alcoholic red

Beer

Athletic Lite Non-Alcoholic Light Beer, 6-pack

$14.99

25 calories a can, the lightest beer we stock, and the one that gets finished. If you want more body, the Run Wild IPA is $14.99 too

Friday cocktail

Sir James 101 Alcohol-Free Gin & Tonic, 4-pack

$23.99

The best-selling cocktail flavor in the shop. Pour over ice, add cucumber, done

Sparkling

Fre Alcohol-Removed Sparkling Brut Packs

$11.99

The cheapest bottle on the list and the one that goes in every spritz and cooler recipe we publish this month

Mixer

Fever Tree Premium Tonic Water Light, 4-pack

$7.99

Makes a bottle of Pallini Limonzero into eight spritzes and turns the sparkling into a cooler

Total: $88.94. Add all six in the Market and 10% comes off at checkout, so $80.05.

The $89 starter list, and what it gets you

Six items, one box, about a week and a half of drinking for one person or a weekend for four.

The point of the starter list is not to cover the month; it is to make sure that on the evening of 1 October there is something in the fridge that you are pleased to open. If you only buy one thing before the month starts, buy this, and buy the rest in its sale week.

Build it here: Better Rhodes Market, build your own bundle. Pick "Pick it yourself", add the six, and the discount applies itself.

The $257 full-month list

This is the list for someone who has done a dry month before and knows the failure mode is boredom.

It is built for one or two people, covers 31 nights with a bit left over, and ships free because it clears the $125 free-shipping line on its own.

That is $7.45 a night for 31 nights, which is less than one glass of the wine it replaces in most restaurants.

What is worth paying more for?

Three things on the full-month list cost more than $20, and each earns it.

Luminara Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay ($24.99). Made in Napa by a winery that also makes the alcoholic kind, and it is the bottle that converts people who think non-alcoholic wine is a compromise. It was one of our five best-selling wines of the last twelve months, and it is back in stock in depth after a warehouse count correction this month.

Kolonne Null Riesling and Cuvée Rouge ($19.99 each). German, new to the range in August 2026, and the reason we finally have a non-alcoholic red with real tannin. If you are the skeptic in the house, start with the Cuvée Rouge.

The Sir James 101 12-Bottle Party Pack ($65.99). Not because it is fancy, but because it is the thing that stops you from buying a cocktail at a bar on the 19th. Twelve bottles at $5.50 each is the cheapest cocktail on the site.

If you want to spend more than $40 on one bottle, the French Bloom Le Blanc ($39.99) is the sparkling that people bring out for an occasion. It is not on the list because the list is about the weeknights.

What should you skip?

Bottled non-alcoholic spirits, unless you already make cocktails at home.

They were 4% of what our customers bought last October, against 56% for wine, and a $35 bottle of botanical spirit that sits half-used on a shelf is the likeliest way to end up with a bottle you regret.

If you do want one, Pallini Limonzero ($19.99) is the exception: an Italian lemon liqueur alternative that makes a spritz with tonic in ten seconds and empties by the end of the month.

Also skip anything you have not tried in a six-bottle case. The Non-Alcoholic Wine Bundle Under $15 ($69.99 for six, $11.67 a bottle) is the way to find out which style you like before you commit to it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Sober October cost?

Between $80 and $230 for the month if you drink most nights and buy in bulk, based on the two lists above.

Saving money is the outcome most Dry January participants report to Alcohol Change UK, and October is no different: most people spend less on non-alcoholic drinks than they spent on alcohol, because the bottles last longer. An opened non-alcoholic wine keeps for four to five days in the fridge, and nobody finishes a bottle of Riesling because it is Tuesday.

Is non-alcoholic beer allowed during Sober October?

Yes. In the United States, a beer labeled non-alcoholic contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, the threshold set out in the FDA's compliance policy on dealcoholized beverages, which is about the same as a ripe banana or a kombucha.

We wrote a longer answer, including the case for skipping it if you are in recovery, at Is Non-Alcoholic Beer Allowed During Sober October?.

Does non-alcoholic wine go off after opening?

It keeps four to five days in the fridge with the cork in, a day or two longer than alcoholic wine because there is no alcohol to oxidize. Sparkling loses its fizz in two.

What if I am hosting?

Use the "Plan for guests" door in the Market: it asks how many people and how many hours and builds the box. For a dinner party, the four-course pairing menu publishes on 22 October.

Where is the cheapest place to start?

The $89 starter list, bought as one bundle for $80. If that is too much, the Ariel Cabernet and the Fre Sparkling Brut are $12.99 and $11.99, $24.98 together, and cover a red night and a celebration night.

Build it as one box

Everything on both lists is in the Better Rhodes Market. Pick "Pick it yourself", add what you want, and the 10% comes off at checkout. Orders over $125 ship free in the US.

If you would rather have a bar cart than a fridge shelf, Better Rhodes guide to building an alcohol-free bar cart before Sober October covers the glassware and the garnish.
